Everything You Need to Know About Ethereum Jakarta Hackathons!
Your complete guide to navigating an Ethereum Jakarta Hackathon, whether you're a beginner or an experienced participant!
Pre Event
Application
Our hackathon welcomes builders of all experience levels - developers, designers, artists, and project managers. When applying, be sure to tell us about your skills and what you hope to build!
Have a portfolio, GitHub, or previous projects? Share them! It helps us understand your abilities and interests better.
Discord
Join our Discord to stay in the loop with important announcements, event links, workshop updates, project submission reminders, and more. It's a great place to connect with fellow hackers, our partners, and mentors, making it the quickest way to start networking before an event begins. Plus, our Discord server keeps everyone connected even after the event wraps up.
Team Formation
In preparation for the event, you can form your team on Discord or bring a pre-formed team with up to four members. Whether you're looking for a developer, designer, frontend or backend specialist, Solidity expert, or another skill, Discord makes it easy to find team members who share your vision. Each team can have up to four members, giving you a chance to build a balanced group before the event even begins. Start connecting now and lay the groundwork for an impactful project!
If you prefer to work solo, that's perfectly fine! Just remember, teams can't exceed four members, and you can only be part of one team, meaning you'll focus on just one project.
Project Idea Brainstorming
During our Team Formation & Idea Brainstorming sessions, new ideas often emerge as participants discuss the projects they're passionate about. Whether you're engaging directly with others or joining breakout groups on Discord for our virtual sessions, these conversations help ideas grow and evolve.
Since this is the first ETHJKT hackathon, we don't yet have our own documentation of projects, finalists, workshops, or keynote talks. However, you can explore projects from other Ethereum hackathons around the world to spark your creativity and get inspired!
Project Rules
🚨 Note: All project work should begin only after the event officially starts, including coding, designing, or asset creation. Each hack submission will be evaluated solely on the work completed during the hackathon period. Participants must build from scratch; if you are continuing or adapting an existing project, you may still participate but will not qualify as a Finalist
🚨 Version Control Requirement: To ensure fairness, all participants must use version control throughout the event. Repositories with single large commits lacking proper history may be disqualified unless additional proof is provided to show compliance.
Use of Open-Source Libraries & Starter Kits: To maintain a level playing field, all projects should start once the event begins, ensuring no one has an early advantage. However, you are welcome to use open-source libraries, boilerplates, or spec designs as foundations for your hack. On your submission page, you'll be required to share your source code (e.g., GitHub Repo, Figma) to verify that all work began during the event. Clearly distinguish between original work started at the event and any updates to pre-existing projects.
